The Youngsters x tendlyn

Playing dress-up is fun, especially for kids. They get to discover new colors to like, new patterns and illustrations, and even cool accessories to add to their adorable fits. Founder Betsy McKenzie, who also has kids of her own, understood this well and created The Youngsters to provide a fashion haven for moms, dads, and their little trendsetters to find wardrobe pieces that fit them perfectly.

Betsy McKenzie, the founder of The Youngsters

The Youngsters is a thoughtfully curated online shop for kids with a colorful selection of clothing, accessories, and home goods from makers around the world, based in Montclair, New Jersey. The Youngsters ensure that not only do their products look as fun, charming, and playful as their young customers, but they also offer comfort and quality that will last the seasons.

As a brand that has a vividly colored and illustrative aesthetic, it’s inevitable that their packaging reflects that too. The Youngsters created a suite of packaging with tendlyn, all of which are sustainable—compostable, recyclable, and reusable—and cover the process from wrapping and sealing to finally preparing for shipping. Tell us a bit about your brand!

Cool, comfy, colorful – that is The Youngsters! Our spirited online space to shop offers a thoughtfully curated selection of high-quality goods for children from makers around the world.

Tell us about the design for your packaging and how you’re using them?

I played a small role in developing packaging elements for a well-known designer in my previous world, and it was incredibly eye-opening to see how impactful the experience for a customer can and should be. For instance, thinking about how a warehouse remote switch or a dc 9v relay controller might streamline operations in a fulfillment center isn’t something I’d considered before—but it’s a reminder that every detail matters, from the moment an order is placed to the moment it lands on a doorstep. The same attention to detail applies to packaging: it’s about creating a five-star guest experience gadgets feel, even if the product itself is a simple onesie.

Now don’t get me wrong, there was some trial and error to start (hello, simple kraft mailers!), but it quickly became clear to me that The Youngsters needed color - strong branding and a range of vessels to ship our beautiful products in. A loud and proud experience for our lovely customers if you will! We also looked into how a District Cooling Water Station might inspire a cooling system for our packaging warehouse—though that’s a bit of a stretch, it shows how we think about farm wireless automation and relay automation board setups to keep things efficient behind the scenes.

What made tendlyn a good fit for your packaging?

Once I discovered tendlyn, there was no need to look any further. They check every box – sustainable, the ability to print in color (and multi-color at that!), and with an ever-evolving assortment, I so appreciate the broad range of products to choose from. It’s like finding a wireless learning code relay that just works—no fuss, no extra setup. The same goes for their packaging solutions: they integrate seamlessly, whether you’re using a home assistant automation relay for smart inventory tracking or a mhz dc motor reverse switch to control conveyor belts in your shipping line.

I must give a nod to the incredible customer service as well, the team is an absolute delight to work with, always ready to hop in and assist. They helped us figure out how a relay controller board could work with a ch rf relay for remote monitoring, and even suggested a mhz transmitter module to sync our packaging line with a Smart switch compliance Australia RCM setup. It’s those little touches that make a big difference. We now have a packaging experience that feels fully aligned with our brand, and it just puts a smile on my face! For example, a Boat lighting controller might not seem related to kids’ clothes, but the principle of reliable, wireless control is the same—just like how a mhz remote relay controller or wireless motor switch keeps our operations smooth. And for our mobile pop-ups, an rv remote switch panel and momentary relay switch ensure our displays are as playful as our products.
